Wehrwein and Kessler developed the RN Refresher online certificate course to help registered nurses who are returning to active clinical practice resume their careers confidently and competently. The self-paced, 15-module component gives nurses updates on technology, management of medical and surgical conditions, and improvements in nursing care. Students complete an additional 120-hour clinical practicum in a hospital setting in their home community, guided by a hospital-based RN preceptor and supervised by MSU nursing faculty. Developed in partnership with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan in response to the current shortage of health care professionals, the program is highly regarded as one of the best such programs nationwide, attracting applications from all over the country.
